Brian & Ryan

A collaborative duo since 2004

TThis artist team appropriates iconic activities and challenges preconceptions of masculinity, athleticism and identity. Their assisted sculptures are exaggerated archetypes taken from the workplace, sports and pedestrian life. By adjusting the familiar and pushing the level of absurdity in their art making, they invite
the audience to reconsider the sanctity and boundaries of the art institution. Their installation-based work is site specific and focuses on engaging the audience with
familiar forms while altering components of the space in an inquisitive and playful manner. These alterations transform spaces and lead viewers to new discoveries about that space. Their collective work allows their independent objectives and concerns to converge into what has simply become known as Brian & Ryan.

Jump the Stump

As part of the Public Art initiative "Park Social" Brian and Ryan spent over a year working within Chollas Lake Park in Sand Diegos 4th district. The two artists created  a variety of interventions and installations throughout the park, often coming every day to make small changes and interact with te public.

In line with the Artist's interest in athletics, a workout guide was made as one of several publications that encouraged the public to engage the park in new and playful ways.

Garden Creature Creation Guide

As part of Art Produce's make it yourself workshop, Briana nd I have ran multiple workshops each summer including a garden creature creation workshop and later that same summer was a collage zine workshop that we promoted on the back page of the creature zine.

This playful zine is in a series of how-to zines that Brian and I have made to complement the work we make for the rest of our practice.
